Well, I've been telling myself that I need to sit down and write an actual blog for some time now. And now that Sheldon thinks he's the blogmaster or something, it's time to start up some friendly competition. So I'm going to tell you a story of a very sheltered girl.
You see, this girl's parents didn't believe Halloween was a very good holiday. She was not allowed to go trick-or-treating, she was not allowed to colour pictures of ghosts and goblins at school, she was not allowed to carry around a UNICEF box, and most of all, she was not allowed to spend Halloween at her school.
At first, the girl really didn't mind it. Afterall, a day off school seemed like fun. But then she discovered what she was missing! She didn't dress up for Halloween until she was 18 years old! How sad is that? She did get to go trick-or-treating once. And she lived in a small enough town to only just hear about Hallelujah nights. What the heck. This girl feels gipped.

I wish I got to experience Halloween as a kid. No matter how evil people say it is. I don't think it really is. It's become a commercial holiday. I know, I know, some people are like "But all this evil crap happens". I'm not doing any of it. I just want candy, and lots of it! I want to dress up like Britney Spears, or slutty Frankenstein or something. But that won't be happening this year. I have homework to do. The Holy Spirit and I need to write my Homoletics Manuscript. All well. My kids will be able to, that's for shizzle! It's a right of passage, a part of childhood. You're an outcast! Belive me! Anyway, enough of my miniranting. I'm done for.

Hey Terrin, I understand where you're coming from... I had really close friends who weren't allowed to do anything on Halloween... me, I was just restricted to cutesy costumes... princess, ballerina, etc.
It was actually kind of fun.
My sympathies for your missing out.
I am missing out AGAIN.. for the.. 3rd year in a row.. people.. I treat or treated until I came to CPC.. it is rough times not to now.. what did you dress as for halloween that year?

I feel for you. I dressed up one year in grade 5 and I was a giant M&M. It was so fun and I got a LOT of candy. Sadly that was the only year b/c my parents decided to be liberal that year or something. We still hide out in our house with all the lights off. we usually watch a movie or something but it's not the same/ And my siblings beg every year to go. Of course we're not doing some voo-doo chant or something. It's fun to dress up and get candy. I"m all about the candy and so is every kid. It's fun. what's so bad about that? I only wish now, because I'm too old. I should go next year with a younger friend or something. If i wear a maske they won't be able to tell I'm 18.
I always went out for halloween. my parents made really bad costumes for me until i was old enough to make bad costumes for myself. it was awsome! i loved getting excited and making something from nothing (we never bought stuff for costumes)of course i was never allowed to be a ghost or vampire or witch...except once in grade 6 my mom let me, and i was a good ghost, 'cause we had a really old yellowy white dress and then with all the make-up...i was scary

Terrin I thought that you were talking about me that whole time! I never got to go out for halloween either and that whole school thing... I thought I was the only one! Except I have not gone out! I was thinking about doing it this year but I just couldn't get into it!

I had a kid come to house last night dressed up as a Rubix cube. Isn't that a cool costume?? I told him I liked it. I didn't dress up last night (monday) but I did dress up last Friday as a punk rocker for a Halloween party. And I went with 2 construction workers!! For real, Lol.
JEREMY- of course i'm coming home! who couldn't resist the novembrance day classic WHEAT KINGS GAME!!!! BWAHAHAHA! Anyway, i will of course be attending church, and i look forward to hearing you preach (better you than me, believe that!). You and jaelyn should come to the wheaties game if you don't have plans!

The last year I dressed up I actually made myself a Sheldoman costume. I bought a whole bunch of blue towels and I sewed them together and I made a mask with two little eye holes in it. And then I tied a grey towel around my back for a cape. I didn't go trick or treating but I wore it to the school dance.
I saw some interesting facts on the news last nite.... Did you know that Canadians spend over 1.1 BILLION Dollars on Halloween??? Pretty much40 dollars per person in canada or somethin like that......
Now who said there isn't any money around?????

indeed. candy rocks. i just spent $45 on discounted candy, and realise that the 4 hours i spend on the streets of saskatoon at the amount i make at my job per hour, will never amount to the amount of candy i acquired tonite, the night AFTER haloween.. you want candy? go trick or treating with your wallet the day after. you shan't be dissapointed.
I truly am sorry you felt left out and that you were treated different because you couldn't celebrate halloween. It says in the word that we are to be different and not to follow the world. Our purpose here on this earth is to glorify God.
Sometimes being a parent is difficult, because you have to make decisions for the ones you are responsible for even when those decisions might not be popular. You might think right now that your children will celebrate halloween, but wait until you actully have a precious little child, who is totally dependant on you for all things; a child entrusted to you by God. It is a far bigger responsibility than you can ever imagine until you are placed in that position.
I can understand the curiosity of fitting in with the world. Personally I'm glad we didn't celebrate hallowweeeennneennnn. I'm also glad that they didn't introduce an overweight should-be-diabetic as a relacement for Jesus at Christmas, and a rabit that lays eggs at Easter in place of Jesus.
Sometimes doing the right thing is difficult (or should I say always?). We may have missed out on sugar overdoses and the 'awwwwwwww cute's from random strangers, but we also weren't indoctrinated into the world of the devil.
Granted, the PAOC is a little insane with the legalism, but too cautious seems to triumph over too lax.
Personally, I didn't really miss out. I went trick-or-treating with Karyn last year, and found out I didn't really like it anyway. I rather enjoy knowing that though the world insists on spending a day on evil, I don't have to be a part of it if I don't want to. Then again, I'm a non-comformist at heart.
