My Internship: Week four (and a half)

Let's see.. in the past week I have....

eaten a grasshopper
gone to the forks twice
seen a musical (assassins was awesome!)
preached
driven pretty much everywhere imaginable in the city
had a lot of coffee
played bass....

on the God side of things, it has been really good. I've been going through the call to die book, and i must say, I think a lot differently about my relationship with God and how it affects my life and stuff.

I've noticed that I've always sort of felt like God has been some sort of ATM machine, or some sort of "give me stuff" machine. I can turn him off when I don't need him, plug him in when I start getting poor, or need something.

WOW. I'm so immature and selfish sometimes!

God has been speaking, and I'm rather liking it.

Is anyone else struggling with what to do after intership too? I mean... the internship program changes, I'm already doing things, should I stay or should I go... maybe just show up for my 4th year and to modules and intern all year long....

blech... too many decisions!

Pedestrians....

Please.... don't jump out in front of my car. When it's almost 10:00 at night here, it's almost impossible to see you, especially if you are wearing dark clothing. This goes for your kids who are riding around on bikes with improper footwear, no helmets, and no sense that the car, if it cannot see you, will proceed, and is in fact much bigger than you.

I don't want to hit pedestrians!!!!!!!

My Internship: Week Three

Well, I went to post some pictures about 4 different times tonight, and I guess blogger just doesn't want me to share my world with you in pictures.

This was a pretty good week. The first couple of days were spent recuperating from YC Manitoba, which was really awesome. Nasser had some good words, the workshops were amazing, Michael Larson led some powerful times of worship, and I saw Barlow Girl and Audio Adrenaline! The most important thing is that I got to have such a good time with some of the youth! They were really impacted by the weekend, and I'm so excited for what they'll grow into when they get going in the church.

Tuesday marked my first rollerblade outing of the season, and it was very fun. Kalandra took the role of my rollerblading buddy, and she showed me some of the sights of Weston and the Brooklands. They're quite the neighborhoods! It's actually not all that bad living in the ghetto... it's much more hardcore ghetto than where Joe and Sarah live... you know... they live in teh upscale ghetto. But my place is whay ghetto-er than theirs lol. Anyway, I don't mind the place at all, I must say. We also spent the evening at the Forks with our friend Molly and took a bunch of pictures and ate a lot of candy. i would have posted them... but blogger is being a jerk!

I had an interesting turn of events on Thursday when I left the church and rolled over a bit on my ankle. I didn't think it was too terrible at first, so I tried to 'walk it off' on the way to my car, and found out that driving a standard with that ankle isn't all it's cracked up to be! I was in quite a fair bit of pain I say! But, I wrapped it, iced it, and by Saturday, I was back to healthy me in no time!

Friday marked my first sermon at Weston Gospel Church, where I preached to the youth about Spiritual Procrastination. I think it went well. I almost had a moment right before I preached where I was like "I should have put WAY more time into this", and then I just prayed for it, and God used what I had and multiplied it! Some of those kids were trippin out! Fridays, I'm finding out, are probably going to be the toughest day for me, because I'm up for prayer at 6, and then youth usually goes till 12 or 1. I try to even things out by going back to bed for a couple of hours after 7am.

Saturday, Brett came in to visit, and I must say, it was very nice to see him! Kind of strange in a new environment here though! It was kind of cool outside, and I was a little leary of doing anything too physical because of the ankle thing... so we went and meandered around the mall for a bit, and hung around the house, and we played taxi for the girls who all worked, because Dennis was trying to fix something that went wrong with their car. So, sorry we didn't do anything too overly exciting! I promise, next time, we'll do some fun and exciting things!

Hmmm.. that's about enough of the goings on... (besides the fact that we went to the Dueck's last night for fireworks and homemade cinnamon buns till 2 in the morning!!!!)

I've been slacking a bit in my call to die this week, but I've started tightening the reigns. Day 14 and 20 have really hit me hard! There are some hard questions in there that would be so easy to avoid... and I have been doing that a little bit, but I've really been trying to clamp down on it, and get to the bottom of things. It's quite a challenging book for those of you who aren't doing it. I highly recommend going to David Nasser's website and picking up a copy for yourself!

This week is of course going to be busy, with a mystery night coming up at youth! I, of course, know what the mystery is, and I hope we can pull it off! It seems like such a daunting task to get finished, but if it's done right, we're going to have so much fun!

Anyway, it's already 9, and I promised myself I would be in bed by 10:30. So I should go do some reading and get into my jammies in a little while.

Until next week.....

My Internship: Week One

HOLY CRAP!
I'm officially an intern!

AGGGGH!

It's been pretty awesome so far!

Let's go over some of the details of my life now, shall we?

I am living with an amazingly wonderful family: the Perrons! I've known them for probably the last 10 years or so, they used to live in Virden! I have a cozy little room in the frigid basement (sure to come in handy once it finally warms up around here), and they're an insanely wonderful and talented and loving family. It's basically a second home here! I got to go the Park Theatre this week too to see Felicia sing in a cabaret thing, they sang lots of catchy numbers from musicals like Assassins and Westside Story! I have the ballad of Czolgosyz stuck in my head all day long now! But yeah.

They are the busiest freaking family I've ever met too! They are all doing things, they all have jobs in the city, and only one car! Not to mention church functions as well as afterschool activities! AHHH! Good thing they just acquired a second vehicle to enlist some help (my car).

The church I am interning at is called Weston Gospel Church. It's super good. The have an awesome vision statement, and feel commissioned to know God and make God known, with lots of focus on evangelism and reaching out to northwest Winnipeg. Pastor Alan is a really good guy too. I went to a class on Saturday about finding your gifts and using them in ministry, and it was just awesome. Not to mention a solid message this Sunday morning! I still have yet to meet with him, but we'll get that taken care of this week, he told me to keep doing what I'm doing and get focused on being settled in.

From Tuesday to Friday, I get to go to the church every morning at 6:00 in the A.M. to pray. I thought at first that it would be total and complete DEATH, but it's really good. I don't recall the last time I spent four consecutive days praying for almost an hour! It's been so good too, I've been journaling my prayers, and things are already happening!

The youth are reallygood here too! I'll be working with the band a lot, and they're already pretty tight, just some tweaking and outside advice to keep them growing in skill, and teaching them what it means to worship! I'm so excited! I get to teach Kali a drum lesson sometime tomorrow too!

The kids in the youth group are great too! I'm slowly getting to know their names! We had a great time on Friday night playing AMAZON WOMAN (THE youth game of all youth games!), and hearing a good message and just enjoying a good time in worship. Today, Courtney Bowflex was out from CPC and did a speel over lunch for CPC. I hope some of the grade 12's make the decision to go to Bible college in the fall. It's so important to get to know your word! (DAY 7: David Nasser... more on the book on the call to die blog!!)

I went to the ZOO yesterday!!!! IT WAS AWESOME! I WANT A MARMOSET!

what else... not sure.... it's just been super busy and a lot of early early mornings... oh. I went to costco for the first time... i like samples!!!!

Well, I'm pooped, and it's 11:30. Tomorrow is my day off. i'm going to long and mcquade to get some drum rings, and price out equipment. then i must teach a drum lesson. then i must call up joe and jordan to see if they would be up for some stars!!!

by the way, NIC!!!!!!!!!!! I went to the stars at Polo Park on Friday, and I only got charged 2.87 in manitoba dollars for a grande earl grey misto! WOOT!!!!! (I'm goingt o be going to that stars from now on!)

anyway, peace out. I'll be blogging and commenting on the nasser blog a little more than this one, so feel free to check that one out!

What's up this week:

-general conference help
-yc manitoba with david nasser!
-prayer!
