HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANUARY 27th!!!

Well, today is the birthday of many people.

For instance: Johnny Lang, Alan Cumming and Bridget Fonda were all born on January 27th.

Angie Fosty (now Whittle) was born on January 27th.

Tessa Dinnin was born on January 27th.

So was this guy:

Happy Birthday Brett!

My John Donne Moment

...No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for Thee...

There's some John Donne for you, Jana.

Anyway, on with the blog.

I've noticed lately, with the help of some very good friends, that I am somewhat of a hermit (not that I've never noticed this ever, but lately, my hermitness is more than a good dose). It's not entirely a bad thing. Time alone is awesome. But as Johnny says... no man (or woman) is an island. Every person needs the help of others to encourage and be edified.

So what's a girl to do with her discovery? I dunno... I guess we'll see what the future brings. But I am deciding to write off being a complete hermit for the next while. I don't think anything really bad could come of it.

Anyway, this was intended to be a short blog, so there you go. Later.

My Day At The Polls

Well, my sister is getting on my case about updates... GEEZ!

On monday, january 23rd, while you were all out voting (at least you SHOULD have been!), I spent my day working as a non-partisan official for elections Canada. That's right, I was a poll clerk all day! It paid ok, and I got along with my partner in crime for the day, Dan, a retired bank worker who is also interested in politics. I made friends with the scrutineers, and listened to old people bitch about the government all day. And I'd do it all over again!

Unfortuantely, I was not allowed to take any pictures of my polling station, but some perks of the day include taking home free stuff that no one wants but me!!!! MWAHAHAHA!

so here are some things I got to take with me at the end of my 14 hour day!!!!

We ended up not having to use this sign, because we were located at a senior's complex, so no voters (or electors as elections canada likes to call them) were coming in from outside. We really only had to put up a public notice. That sure cut down on things to do in the morning (man Terrin, small things amuse you). So naturally, at the end of the night, I swiped the handicapped sign. I'm sure I'll get some good use out of it.

Each Poll is allowed to have scrutineers, also known as candidate's representitives present for the whole day, as well as the vote counting (you actually need 2 witnesses there when you count ballots, so they come in handy!). Anyway, the scrutineers are not allowed to wear party colors, pins or anything suggesting that they are with a party other than these stickers we give them. We only gave out 2 NDP stickers and a Conservative one all day.

The Marijuana Party makes me laugh. (I have two of these up for grabs if anyone is itching for one!)

Here are all the stickers we had left at the end of the day!!!!!

Here's my fancy nametag. I felt all official and stuff. I even had a fancy elections canada ruler so i could stroke people's names off the list!!!

Here is the outdoor elections notice sign that we didn't have to use. So naturally, I took it.

So yeah, there's my day of excitement. I got home close to 10, and stayed up till one scouring the internet for elections coverage, and then watching the clips of the concession speeches, and FINALLY watching Stephen Harper give his victory speech at about 12:30. What a day!

Oh, and if you didn't vote, Jack Bauer will find you.

My Busy Week

Well, though it seemed like not a whole lot was happening, I had a very busy and stressful week!

1. I got my hair dyed and cut. It looks so awesome. Except the hairstylist decided to try and give me a fro when she was done cutting it. EEW!!!!! So when I got back to the school, Stef and Jennie decided to straighten it. It took an hour with each girl using a straightener. apparently i'm quite the looker with straight hair. but i washed it and now it's curly, so i won't be making anyone else stumble.

2. Jana, Jasen Lutz and Graham Emde played at some artsy pub called "Lydia's" and killed big time!
They did some David Gray song (I think it was called Ordinary People), some Amos Lee, Derek Webb, and a Switchfoot song. They kicked supreme ass!!!!!!! So after that, Nicole and I stayed at Jana's house, and since we had no alarm clock, Jana was the designated alarm clock person. Unfortunately, at 3:30 in the morning, she had a dream that her alarm clock went off, and decided to come and tell us it was time to get up. Luckily, I was sleeping on my deaf ear, and wasn't really disturbed.

3. Chocolate chip pancakes, although tasty, are not as delicious as regular ones with butter and syrup. Jana is a killer cook though. Seriously, I'm very envious.

4. While Nicole and I were driving back to the school that morning for class, we were rear ended. My poor car has to get yet another rear bumper (I was rear-ended last year on my way to work one night as well). All well, it could be worse. The other car was written off :S. No supersevere injuries though. It could have been a lot worse, praise God we are ok.

5. Dealing with Autopac and SGI is annoying. I can't wait until this is all finished.

6. My drum students are all doing very well, way to go guys!

7. I had my first piano lesson today. It was so nerve wracking, but I can tell I have a good piano teacher (other than the fact that he told me he's a good teacher) when he explained a bunch of unneccessary jargon about music that I never bothered to learn. Apparently he's like an OCD analytical type of musician, which is exactly what I need (maybe not necessarily what I would want, but I know I will learn tons). I feel like such a dweeb though, because I have probably forgotten about 95% of what I learned in 5 years of piano lessons in my early teen years. But he assured me that if I did exactly as he says, I'll be just fine! Go piano!

8. 24, Season 4-athon starts tonight at 6PM in the SLC! Don't miss it! (by the way, the premiere of season 5 was AH-MAZE-ING!!!!!!!!)

9. On Monday, January 23rd, don't forget to vote. And if you vote Liberal, I will kick your ass. Seriously, you could vote for the communists and still be my friend. But a Liberal vote is a vote for the devil.

10. On that note, I'm working as a poll clerk on election day. It's well over 12 hours of work for pretty good pay. I'm not allowed to have an opinion on the 23rd though. So I'm getting it out of my system right now. DO NOT vote for the liberals.

So there's some insight into my life right now. Later!

My Anti-Blog

Sorry guys, I haven't felt much like blogging lately.

I've been listening to a lot of the Beatles and reading some books and whitening my teeth. And keeping up with what's going in the election. If there were one piece of advice I could give it would be to VOTE, dammit!!!!

Anyway, that's the extent of my blogging for today. Later taters.

My Fleeting Thoughts

Wow. The first week of semester number two has been crazy!!!! Here's some of the thoughts I've been randomly thinking (some serious, some not)

1. Crest Whitestrips are a gift straight from heaven. They really work! Except they make your teeth supersensitive. Don't breathe through your mouth on a cold day after using these things!!! But boy are they white!

2. I bought a fancy-nancy dress for Brett's graduation. And I'm getting my hair cut and perhaps hi-lighted. I'm not so sure on the second part. But cut for certain (I promised no shaving already though lol)

3. I have only really been to two of my four subject classes thus far as Mr. Puls had some surgery or something. So I've had a good intake of English Literature II and Pneumatology (the study of the Holy Spirit!)

4. Working as a poll clerk for the election is going to be a long and tedious job, and I'm sure I'm likely going to hate it. But it pays almost $200 for one day of work, so I will do the job with a smile on my face! Plus, I get to work a poll that is located in an old folk's home. Is that God or what?????

5. I enjoy smelling like coconuts. It reminds me of summer!

6. Teaching drums will likely challenge me more than my students (not in the bad way. it's just something entirely new for me! hopefully I'll be a good teacher)

7. I'm learning more and more that being devoted to Christ should mean sacrifices for me. Which is hard for a person who tries to find the most convenient way to do things. How selfish.

8. I've been having strange and disturbing dreams lately. I think it's because I've been going to bed on time. I'll spare you the details as the few listeners I've subjected to my fantasy were quite horrified.

9. Tessa, have your baby already, dammit!

10. I hate that when people are introduced to me, the introducer always says something like, "oh, Terrin's an awesome musician, etc". Is music who I am or just something I do? Like, why doesn't anyone ever describe me as a good listener, or a beautiful soul, or kind, or nice, or something. I dunno. Maybe I'm just being too picky and sensitive.

11. Paul McCartney is a poineer of rock'n'roll bass lines. I live for old school Beatles' stuff.

12. I am not artsy, I just live vicariously through my artsy friends (Stewart, Jana, Nic, Jord and Joe and sometimes Jeremy... oh, and Brett's been liking some weird music lately [metric?!]). This will be the subject of a future blog wherein I will list my taste in music versus true blue artsies. You'll be pleasantly surprised, methinks. By the way, Jeremy, I downloaded some Sufjan Stevens... I like that Abraham song... but everything else is a little odd.....

LATER!

My Open Letter to Myself

Dear Terrin:

Please fire the 'flesh' part of you. It makes bad decisions, and is going to die soon anyway.

Signed:

Your starving Spirit

My Yearly Survey for New Year's

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Played drums on a regular basis in front of people, finished my first year of Bible College, started my second year. Bought a skirt (willingly), manicures, pedicures, considered tanning, tried Starbucks, worked at somewhere other than 7-Eleven, fell in love with old people, babysat two sets of twins. Oh, I also saw the Foo Fighters in live, living color!!!

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for next year?

I'd have to pull up the email, but if I remember correctly, I think I refused to make one last year. It was probably a rebellious thing ;). This year I did however make a couple.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

My sister and her husband had a bouncing baby boy! Tessa is about to pop at any minute now, and Taralee and S2 are expecting as well!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My great-grandmother died at the age of 97, and Belle Ames died :(

5. What countries did you visit?

Nothing other than Canada, but from mid-October to Novembrance day, I was in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba!

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

More time with God. Seriously! I've decided to fast the internet for a day a week to spend some more time in the Bible and such. I haven't picked which day yet. We'll have a look at my class schedule, and I'll let you know when I make the decision!

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched in your memory, and why?

May 20th. For personal reasons.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

The skirt. I guess making dean's list was pretty big too.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I probably wasn't the best steward of my money. Though I am proud to say that in my first semester of school, I managed not to buy clothes or shoes until the Christmas Party at school.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

In May (I think) I got the world's nastiest cold and ended up going to the hospital at 6 in the morning because I couldn't breathe. Other than that I think I did ok for the year. As for injuries, nothing more than blisters and bruises.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Rollerblades, Brett's Christmas present and Starbucks coffee.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Jorgia, for being such a good girl at the pool and not running on the deck!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Anyone who was backbiting at Sev all summer, and Bert for still cheating on his wife after like 8 months and a secret pregnancy.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Paying off bills, car payments, and school. Other than that, I would say that shoes would be a safe second. (though I think I bought less than 10 pairs all year. Go me!)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Coming home to see Brett, and summer holidays :).

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?

Anything from Jack Johnson's In Between Dreams will remind me of March/April 2005.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Let's see. I'm not working at sev anymore, Brett and I are still together, and I get to buy clothes. Much happier!!!!

ii. thinner or fatter? I don't know actually. I probably haven't weighed myself in over 2 years.

iii. richer or poorer? Well, I don't really have an income anymore, and I'm spending borrowed money. But I feel richer!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Socializing. I'm such a hermit.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Moping around and surfing the internet.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?

What do you think?

23. How many one-night stands?

No. I have to lie down to sleep, thanks.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Arrested Development was the discovery of the year. and House. and Criminal Minds. 24 and CSI are still old favey's though.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I don't think so.

26. What was the best book you read?

Real Presence by Leanne Payne, or Freakonomics.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Waking Eyes.

29. What did you want and not get?

Video iPod, Taylor Acoustic Guitar, Laptop. I did get a wireless mouse and keyboard and a sub system for my current computer though.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

so many! Just Friends, Harvey Potter, and though I technically did see Crash yesterday, it was made in 2005, and was rather good.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I led praise and worship at church, went and watched Brett play baseball, went for supper with Brett's parents, and Brett took me out for ice cream. I turned 21!!!

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

A world tour. Or my own computerized house made of stainless steel and leather couches and big screen tv's.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?

Pink is the new blue!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Kiefer and John. We're on a first name basis now.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Gay Mirrage.

37. Who did/do you miss?

Brandon friends, the Dwelling Place, Brett.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Wendy Toews.

39. Quote a few song lyrics that sums up your year:

Hey! Wait! I got a new complain! Forever in debt to your priceless advice!!!

Sorry that was so long guys. I made a couple of resolutions for the year. But I heard if you tell them, they won't come true. So... until next time...
